art. 1) ASSOMIDOP* and the Sondrio Town Council Documentation Centre on Protected Areas are pleased to announce that Sondrio Festival 2014 - International Documentary Film Festival on Parks (XXIX edition)  will be held in Sondrio, Italy, from 2 to 8 november 2015.

art. 2) The Festival is open to makers of documentaries featuring naturalistic, ethnographic and management aspects of National Parks, Nature Reserves and other types of Protected Areas, classified as such by a national or local authority. Monographic films on single animal or plant species or abiotic aspects are accepted only if the commentary specifically mentions that they have been filmed inside a protected area.

For the 2015 Festival, in conjunction with EXPO Milan, an s extra category has been included for documentaries made in natural areas and dealing with the environment, its conservation, human activities and agriculture, relating to the theme of EXPO Milano 2015: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.

Films produced before 2013 or entered in previous editions of the Festival will not be accepted.

art. 3) Inclusion of films in the Festival is entirely at the discretion of the Pre-selection Committee, according to the criteria indicated by the Festival Scientific Committee. In particular, films that do not meet artistic and technical requirements, or have excessive publicity or promotional contents, and in general films not in keeping with the aims of Festival and its rules will not be included.

art. 4) The entry form is to be completed on-line at our website: www.sondriofestival.it. A copy of the films in DVD PAL format for pre‑selection, together with signed hard copies of entry forms printed out from the website, must reach the address below not later than 30th April 2015:

The cost of sending submitted materials is to be borne by the participants. Please indicate on your package “Senza valore commerciale – per soli scopi culturali” (No commercial value – for cultural purposes only).

Materials coming from Countries outside the European Union must be accompanied by all necessary customs clearance documents (pro-forma invoice).

art. 5) All entered films which are not in Italian or English must be subtitled in Italian or English or in alternative must be accompanied by a complete translation of the script in Italian or English with timecode.

art. 6) The selected films will be dubbed in Italian and shown free of charge to the Festival audience. In order that the selected films can be included in the Festival, the Organizing Committee will require a copy in DIGITAL BETACAM or in another professional format (tape or file) to be agreed on, with separate international soundtrack (music & effects) to be delivered not later than 3 July 2015For the Festival’s public screenings, film-makers and producers of selected films may be asked to provide a shorter version.

art. 7) The authors of each selected film will be guests of ASSOMIDOP for the six days of the Festival in Sondrio. The organizers reserve the right to invite other representatives: film-makers, producers and park managers. These guests may be asked to participate in the Festival’s secondary activities, depending on their specific skills.

art. 8) Films selected for the Festival will be considered for the following awards:

  • “LOMBARDY REGION” AWARD (3000 Euros) for the best documentary that highlights the aspects of nature, culture, landscape and economy in protected areas within the European Union.
  • “EXPO MILANO 2015” SPECIAL AWARD, prize to be specified

Additional prizes may also be awarded by the Festival Jury.

Prizewinning film-makers are expected to attend the awards ceremony on the final evening.

art. 9) The selected films will be viewed and judged by the International Jury in their original, not translated and unabridged version.

art. 10) The Organizing Committee, while undertaking to handle copies of films received with utmost care, declines all responsibility for damage of any kind during transport, projection or storage. The competitors are therefore advised to provide adequate insurance cover for the materials sent at their own expense. The Organization moreover declines all responsibility should it prove impossible to hold the Festival due to circumstances beyond their control; in which case all films will be returned to senders as soon as possible, the participants renouncing any claim to compensation or indemnity on the part of ASSOMIDOP.

art. 11) The Organizing Committee reserves the right to use the copies of films received, for promoting the Festival and for educational, cultural and scientific purposes, including public showings free of charge, exclusively in the context of the activities of the Documentation Centre on Protected Areas of Sondrio Town Council, of ASSOMIDOP and its Members. Films may not be used for other purposes without the express permission of the authors or copyrights owners.

art. 12) Copies sent to the Festival will not be returned but will become part of the materials of the Documentation Centre on Protected Areas of Sondrio Town Council.

art. 13) Registration of films for the Festival implies acceptance of all the above regulations. The film-makers, producers or other persons submitting an application and the relevant materials must, on their own responsibility, be legitimately authorised to submit such documentaries to the Festival.
